General data

Course ID: 1100-4BM24
Erasmus code / ISCED: 13.2 The subject classification code consists of three to five digits, where the first three represent the classification of the discipline according to the Discipline code list applicable to the Socrates/Erasmus program, the fourth (usually 0) - possible further specification of discipline information, the fifth - the degree of subject determined based on the year of study for which the subject is intended. / (unknown)
Course title: Work placement
Name in Polish: Praktyki zawodowe
Organizational unit: Faculty of Physics
Course groups: (in Polish) ZFBM, II stopień; Biofizyka molekularna
ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

A two-week-holiday practice is dedicated to students of the second stage of study in Applications of phycics in biology and medicine ("Molecular biophysics") and in Physics ("Biophysics"). The aim is to provide a student a deeper experimental and theoretical knowledge within a chosen scientific project in an experimental laboratory. The practices are conducted first of all in scientifiv institutes that make multidisciplinary bioreseach.

Mode:

Classroom

Short description:

The courses make it possible to get to know specificity of doing research in molecular biophysics, bioinformatics, and/or similar branches of science, like chemisty, molecular biology, bio- and nanotechnology. The research project may help the student to rationally choose a subject of his/her MSc degree.

Full description:

Students of Physics and of Applicatications of Physics in Biology and medicine, specialization "Molecular biophysics" choose the place from the list provided by the coordinator (Prof. Ryszard Stolarski).

It is also possible to find an institute by the student him/herself to take part in a project there, after making an agreement between a tutor in the foreign institute and the suitable coordinator at the Faculty of Physics.

Actual list of places for students of Physics and of Applicatications of Physics in Biology and Medicine, specialization "Molecular biophysics" (2 weeks in July through September) are announced each year in www pageges of the Faculty

Student's effort:

Laboratory work 30 h

Self-studying ca. 30 h

Total, ca. 60 h

Description by Ryszard Stolarski, June 2014 and October 2016.

Bibliography:

Provided individually by a group leader in a foreign institute chosen be the student.

1. The student knows the basic and advanced techniques, exprimental and/or computer, which enable performing an multidisciplinary, scientific topic (KW_05).

2. The student knows the most important notions, facts, and methods of physics, chemistry, and biology to performe laboratory work or comuter simulations (KW_06).

3. The student knows the basic safety rules in the laboratory work (KW_08).

SKILLS

1. The studen tis able to apply the acquired knowledge at the Faculty to accomplish reaserch (K_U01, K_U03, K_U05)..
