Brief description

The subject is devoted to the presentation of the research strategy of biomolecular systems using the methods of theoretical physics and various computer simulation techniques. In particular, issues related to computer-aided drug design will be discussed. Basic and advanced methods such as molecular docking, molecular dynamics, quantum-classical molecular dynamics, free energy computation methods and non-equilibrium molecular-dynamics-based methods will be discussed. During the laboratory, students will carry out three projects, covering the most common problems raised in research in the field of computational biophysics.

(in Polish) Wykład obejmuje podstawy fizyki układów, w których, na skutek oddziaływania z neutronami następują jądrowe reakcje łańcuchowe. W szczególności skupia się na zastosowaniu fizyki jądrowej do opisu własności reaktorów jądrowych metodami przybliżonymi takimi jak teoria dyfuzji lub teoria transportu. Omawiane będą analityczne i przybliżone sposoby rozwiązywania zagadnień związanych z reaktorami jądrowymi.

(in Polish) Celem zajęć jest przygotowanie studentów do samodzielnej pracy doświadczalnej i opracowania danych pomiarowych. W ramach pracowni student wykonuje cztery ćwiczenia laboratoryjne. Efektem wykonania ćwiczenia jest opis, który jest oceniany przez asystenta. Tematy zadań doświadczalnych dobierane są tak, aby studenci poznali podstawowe przyrządy i techniki pomiarowe, a zebrane podczas pomiarów dane były dobrym materiałem ilustracyjnym do najczęściej używanych metod analizy danych.

(in Polish) This proseminar consists of 4 series of 3 meetings. Each such series is devoted to one contemporary challenge or problem that is facing us. The challenges that will be discussed are related to topics such as global warming, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, nuclear threats, public education and science outreach, etc. Each series of meetings will consist of a lecture by an expert in a given topic, short presentations by students, and a discussion or other forms of deepening knowledge in this area.
