Skrócony opis: |
This lecture aims at familiarizing students with the known ill-posed problems in atmospheric physics. After attending to the lecture students will be able to make use of the existing current literature in the field of ill-posed problems in atmospheric physics, as well as she/he will be able to apply that knowledge in practice for a number of numerical solutions to the problem. This lecture is taught in English only. |
Pełny opis: |
The aim of this lecture is to provide a basis knowledge of the ill-posed / inverse problems in atmospheric physics and to discuss their solutions upon a few specific examples. The focus will be on atmospheric lidar data retrieval. The detailed program of the lecture will be given at the first meeting. The lecture is open to students who do not have an extensive knowledge of the atmospheric physics. However, the knowledge of mathematics at the level of Analysis I and basic programming skills (Matlab environment preferred) are required. An estimated student workload: - participation in class: 20h (10 essential lectures during semester) - practical training: 10h (one-to-one sessions) - written report on results and practical work performed by the student: 20h - preparation for the exam: 10h |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The completion of this course will be assessed based on the written report on conducted field experiment (30%), numerical experiment (30% of the final grade) and on the written exam result (40% of the final grade). The topics for the exam will be given 3 weeks in advance, and will cover the material realized during lectures. During the exam session one written exam and one make-up exam are planned. Attending lectures is recommended, although not obligatory. Attendance to all lectures in the whole semester increases the final grade of 0.5 degree. Note that due to COVID situation no face-to-face individual projects are possible for lecture in Winter semester 2020/2021, therefore student are required only to pass the exam. The mock exam is on 13/1/2021 at 13.30-15.00, to pass it you must get mark 4 or higher! The exam is scheduled on 27/1/2021 at 13.30-15.00. The resit exam is on 10/2/2021 at 13.30-15.00. Whether these exams will be carried out online or in class will be decided at a later point. NOTE: Passing the exam is not required for doctoral students. Therefore they can either take the exam (and receive the exam mark) or they can receive the credit (passed) for their active and regular participation in classes. |
