Pełny opis: |
This course aims at developing a project (literature review, computational or combined) related to selected problems of numerical analysis applied to atmospheric physics. After developing the project students will be able to relate different numerical methods with current problems in atmospheric physics. They will be able to search for relevant literature, understand why and how numerical methods are necessary, and apply knowledge in practice for a set of real or simulated atmospheric data. The list of some possible topics for Winter semester is: Eigenvalue problem for Principal Component Analysis. Application to atmospheric sciences Singular Value Decomposition for least squares fit. Application to atmospheric measurements of noisy data Numerical integration in radiative transfer parameterization Numerical differentiation in atmospheric observations inversion. Application to LIDAR signals. Lorenz Attractor and other convection models in atmospheric sciences Apart from the topics on the proposed list, students can also propose other topics focusing on atmospheric applications of some numerical methods. Student workload: - preparation for the project: 10h - project development: 10h - preparation of results and preparation of report: 10h It is recommended that students have passed the course “Selected Topics in Numerical Analysis for Atmospheric Physics” or have some experience in numerical methods and programming. Students that have performed a certain exercise in the previous semesters are not allowed to perform the same exercise in the current semester. |

The list of references will be provided during the lectures. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
The completion of this course will be assessed based on: - 60% written report on the main numerical project performed by the student, - 40% oral presentation of the selected problem in open forum. |
