  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Student will get knowledge how to solve matematical problems within four basic sub-fields of physical chemistry

Full description:

Program:

1. Determination the values of changes in thermodynamic functions related to changes in the physical parameters of the system and/or physical (phase) transitions or chemical reactions occurring in the system..

2. The use of methods and tools of chemical thermodynamics in calculating chemical equilibria in multicomponent and multiphase systems.

3. Calculation of quantities describing the electrochemical properties of electrolyte solutions and electrode systems (ion activity, conductivity, potential of electrodes in the equilibrium state, electromotive force of cells, use of data from electrochemical measurements to determine the parameters of the system in the equilibrium state).

4. Calculations related to the kinetics of chemical reactions (determination of the reaction order, reaction rate constant, half-life, activation energy, degree of conversion after a given time under given reaction conditions).

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student analyzes and explains various aspects and methodology of considering computational issues.

Solves calculation problems in physical chemistry in the following sections: Thermodynamics with thermochemistry, Chemical equilibrium, Electrochemistry and Chemical kinetics

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Two written tests from the appropriate section of the material (thermodynamics + chemical equilibria; electrochemistry + chemical kinetics)
