| Short description: |
Histology is the microscopic part of the anatomy, the science of the development, construction and function of tissues. The class is designed for students of the Faculty of Physics and covers the general principles of human histology. |
| Full description: |
The aim of the lecture is to introduce students to general human histology. Practical classes include review, analysis and identification of human tissue preparations. The programme includes: 1) microscopy and histological techniques 2) general morphological and functional characteristics of tissues, in particular: - epithelium - fat tissue - connective tissue - cartilage and bone - muscle - nerve tissue - blood 3) morphology of organs |
| Bibliography: |
(in Polish) 1. Sawicki W. Malejczyk J. Histologia. Wydawnictwo Lekarskie PZWL. |
| Learning outcomes: |
The effect of learning is practical and theoretical knowledge acquired by the student of histology (in relation to human tissue). Students know how tissues and organs are built and what role they play in the body. They can identify tissues and organs based on microscopic preparations. They also has basic knowledge of the histopathological changes. After completing the lecture students can read and understand popular science texts related to histology. |
| Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Students can be absent only once during the practical classes. During each practical class students prepare a protocol that is later scored by the instructor. To be eligible to take an exam, students cannot be absent more than once during the practical classes AND have to obtain at least 60% of points on average from all protocols. The exam has a written form (an open text). |
