ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Introduction to the up-to-date status of theoretical and experimental particle and astroparticle physics, and the most recent achievements of the field.

Full description:

Introduction to the selected aspects of theoretical and experimental particle and astroparticle physics, related to the recent achievements of the field. Current state of knowledge will be presented and students will be able to follow results coming from experiments at Large Hadron Collider (LHC), laboratory and space based searches for Dark Matter, as well as from the neutrino oscillation experiments.

Outline:

  1. Intruduction to the Standard Model
  2. Detection of particles, experiments at large colliders
  3. Selected aspects of the Theory of Fundamental Interactions
  4. Search for and study of the properties of the Higgs particle
  5. Models beyond the Standard Model and search for their signatures
  6. Origin and evolution of the Universe, Dark matter, Dark energy
  7. Searches for Dark Matter
  8. Neutrino experiments

Work effort:

- lecture 30h

- preparation for the lecture 20h

- preparation for the exam 30h

Total: 80h
